Hurricane Irma: Groups postpone, shorten Orlando conventions

Hurricane Irma has prompted one group to postpone its meeting in Orlando while two others will end their gatherings earlier than scheduled at the Orange County Convention Center.

The Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show, originally set for Sunday through Tuesday, has moved to Oct. 11-13. It will remain at the International Drive facility. The event is put on by the Tallahassee-based Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association.

“We want you to be able to prepare for the possible storm path within Florida and the surrounding states, and keep your family and business as first priorities,” vice president Tom Loughran wrote on the show’s Facebook page.

The restaurant and lodging event was expected to draw 8,400 attendees.
