New Yorker charged after Universal CityWalk shopping spree with counterfeit $100 bills

A 28-year-old New York City man has been charged after he used counterfeit $100 bills on a shopping spree at Universal CityWalk, documents show.

Kevin Avalos was charged with a third-degree felony for uttering forged bills and a misdemeanor retail theft charge, according to Orange Circuit Court records.

He pleaded not guilty, according to a Dec. 28 court filing.

On Dec. 16, Avalos bought a shake at Cold Stone Creamery with one of the bills when the employee checked it under the UV light and noticed “it looked strange,” according to an arrest affidavit from the Orlando Police Department.
